Perfect Pitching

When it comes to pitching many people complicate things by using their wrists too much or by focusing on different lengths in the golf swing depending on the distance. So in this short “Top Tip” I will go through 3 simple ways in which you can simplify things and get you hitting more greens and getting the ball closer to the hole.

The first key “Top Tip” is to simplify things by focusing on one swing length and for the standard pitch shot I want you to focus on swinging the club simply back to what I call the “L” position.

Seen in the diagram below –

You can see from the image above, that I’m making sure my left arm stays parallel to the ground and the club points to the sky, which creates my perfect “L” position. Once you can get this working, it then leads to my next “Top Tip” nicely.

My second “Top Tip” is to make sure that you use all of your wedges for your short game. I would say make sure that you have a minimum of 3 wedges in your bag including your pitching wedge. This will then allow you to keep you focusing on the “L” position, whilst you change the loft of the club to vary the distance rather than change the length of the swing. This will then just breed consistency, which will then give you a massive confidence boost.

My third and last “Top Tip” for pitching would be to make sure that you have firm hands through the entire swing. Pre-set yourself on your left side slightly with your hands forward, so all you need to do from there is make a good rotation with the body up to the “L position” and then simply unwind and rotate through the shot.
